Free Advice: How NOT to kill your business

Posted on 23. Dec, 2011 by in

New websites are popping up each and every day. Some are good, reliable websites, while others give a shady impression. Though many have good intentions, their website screams out “UNPROFESSIONAL”!

What can kill a business before it even begins is, a bad domain name and grammatical errors. You may have seen web addresses like yourname.webs.com or some other sub domain name. These type of web addresses are fine for personal uses, but never for commercial purposes. If you don’t invest in yourself, or your business, then how can you expect others to take you seriously. Dot coms are inexpensive and prove to be an excellent investment.

Another business-killer is a bad domain name. Also remember to keep it simple, short, and easy to remember. Not only that, but keep in mind, if you order a .org, .net, etc., a person is more prone to enter your domain name (if they remember it) and put .com at the end. Which means, you’ll accidentally lose traffic. The best way to avoid that is to buy the .com. net and .org for the name you choose, so no matter what the user types in, they’ll get sent to your website.

Last, but not least, grammatical errors and shorthand has no place on commercial websites. Unless you’re creating a blog, you should always use correct grammar. Utilize spellcheck and proofread your content. Mistakes gives a bad impression. Always cross your t’s and dot your i’s before launching a website.
